Week 13

December 8, 2009

WWSOFFL:

Week 13: The playoffs are set with a three team tiebreaker for the Peter Division title and a five team tiebreaker for the three wildcard spots as seven teams finished 7-6. The Gatsbys won the Julie with a league best 8-5 record and get a first round bye along with the Salmon who won the tiebreaker for the Peter division crown and then a tiebreaker over the Colassals, who won the Link Division outright, for the second spot. The Ducks claimed the first wildcard berth and then the two teams that tied with the Salmon for the Division, the Onion Heads and the Thumbs, claimed the other two spots. The Crushers and Muiracles, the final teams with 7-6 records will get first round byes in the Hot Poop Toilet Bowl.

The Whales were the only team in the top six in scoring not to make it to the playoffs and the Thumbs, who got the spot, were in seventh place. The Whales consolation prize was winning the two-week high score money. Here are the total points for the season:

Salmon 518

Colassals 477

Ducks 471

Gatsbys 466

Whales 438

Onion Heads 433

Thumbs 424

Crushers 419

Charlie 416

Muiracles 384

Wheat Eaters 374

Maroons 336

The Colassals will play the Thumbs and the Ducks will play the Onion Heads. In the Toilet Bowl, it will be the Whales versus the Maroons and Charlie against the Wheat Eaters.

The Colassals sewed up their division title with a 43-31 win over Charlie while the Wheat Eaters were beating the Whales 42-36. The Salmon went into the weekend with a virtually insurmountable 97 point lead over its nearest division rival and was assured the tiebreaker barring a record setting day by one team (the league record is 73 points). The Onion Heads needed the win over the Salmon and got it, 31-19. The Thumbs beat the Maroons 34-14 to put themselves into position for the playoffs as well. The Gatsbys had already clinched and played like it, losing 23-13 to the Muiracles. The Crushers just got past the Ducks 30-29, but it was not enough for the defending champs to return to the playoffs.

It was a low scoring week overall, so no surprise that the tds among the starting rbs this weekend was only 4 while the wrs had 14.

Moves: The Colassals took J Carlson for J. Finley for Carlson; the Maroons got A. Fasano for Pettigrew and SF for the NYGiants; the Gatsbys took D. Henderson and K. Britt for Cotchery and Manningham; the Thumbs changed kickers again, to J. Reed for J. Hanson; and Charlie won the race to J. Avant for S. Smith (NYG).

I just want to say that our system is much better than the BCS, the Robert Meacham ruling was correct, although it had no impact on the outcome of anything, and that Ben promised to go back to email from the second week of the season to remind us what was said by me about the Giants and Cowboys. Ben, can you deliver as promised? Enjoy the playoffs.

Week 12

December 1, 2009

WWSOFFL:

Week 12: With one week left no team has clinched a division title, only one team, the Gatsbys, has clinched a playoff spot, and only one team, the Wheat Eaters, has been eliminated. Seven teams are at .500, only three teams have winning records, and only two teams are under .500. It has never been this undecided going into the last weekend of play. In the Peter Division, the Salmon hold a one game lead over the other three teams. The Colassals and Whales are tied in the Link, with Charlie a game back and still having a shot if both the teams ahead of them lose this week. In the Julie, the Gatsbys have a one game lead on the Ducks. If the Salmon and Gatsbys win, they clinch their divisions and first round byes. If the Salmon lose, they are almost certainly in a tie-breaker with the Maroons-Thumbs game along with the Onion Heads. If the Gatsbys lose and the Ducks win, then it is a tiebreaker for the division title. Whoever wins the Julie will get a first round bye. In the Link, if both the Colassals and Whales win, it is a tiebreaker. If only one wins, that team wins the division. If both lose, that makes it a three-way tie along with Charlie. I hope that is all clear. Once the division winners are sorted out, then will come the wildcards. First tiebreaker is, of course, total points.

How did we get to this point? The Salmon took the division lead after a big 37 point Monday night gave them a come-from-behind 45-40 win over the Colassals. The Whales pulled even with the Colassals as Fred/David Akers’ 13 points led them to a 55-23 win over the Maroons. The Gatsbys clinched a playoff spot as A. Gates scored 14 points to led them to a 42-27 win over the Wheaties. The Ducks stayed in the hunt for the division title with a 36-12 victory over the Onion Heads. The Thumbs got back to .500 with a 32-17 win over the Muiracles. Charles hung on to the hope of a tiebreaker with two LT tds leading the way to a 28-21 win over the defending champ Crushers.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 13 tds to 9 by the wrs.

Moves: The Colassals took J. Finley for Carlson and L. Johnson for Betts; the Gatsbys reacquired Buffalo for Detroit; Charlie went Rock for Fargas, Bell for Moats; the Onion Heads took Cundiff for O. Daniels.

The DeSales Irish lost to Colfax 19-0 in the state semifinal. It was a close battle the first half, the difference being a 53 yard run by Colfax for a 6-0 lead. But DeSales qb Pat Richard suffered a concussion right before the half and with a freshman qb the Irish offense could not sustain a drive in the second half. Still it was a great season. Number 54 is disappointed but proud of his team. Go Irish!

Week 11 Results

WWSOFFL:

Week 11: Down to the wire it will go in all three divisions. There is a three-way tie for the lead in the Peter Division as the Maroons and Onion Heads won while the Salmon and Thumbs lost. The Colassals grabbed the lead in the Link Division with a big win while the Whales lost. In the Julie Division, the Gatsbys were the only loser as the other three teams pulled within a game of the division lead.

R. Gould’s 14 points led the Maroons over the Gatsbys 49-27. The Onion Heads defeated Charlie 47-29. Big Ben may have lost his game to the Chiefs, but his 12 points led the Crushers to a 46-37 win over the Salmon. Twenty points from R. Williams got the Colassals rolling on Thursday and they did not stop pulling away to a 56-33 win over the Thumbs. The Whales were defeated 38-24 by the Muiracles. The Wheat Eaters playoff drive is done and they secured their spot in the Hot Poop Bowl as the Ducks beat the Wheaties 36-25.

Two weeks left and we have one team at 7-4, seven teams at 6-5, and two teams at 5-6. This will be fun. Three games this Thursday. If you started this week a player on a team that plays on Thursday and you make no move that player automatically plays. If you have any questions about the rules, ask me.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 16 tds to 11 by the wrs.

Moves: The Thumbs took J Hanson for S. Hauscha and J. Lewis for R. Brown. Charlie took Chambers for Knox. The Gatsbys took Detroit for Buffalo. The Maroons took J. Forsett for J. Harrison.

The DeSales Irish won the most exciting game of the weekend defeating the LaSalle Lightning 29-27 on a field goal with two second left. That is two years in a row that LaSalle defeated the Irish in the first game of the season and the Irish travelled to Yakima to beat the Lightning in the playoffs. DeSales plays Colfax on Saturday at 4 in Lampson Stadium in Kennewick. The Irish have so far beaten two of the three teams they lost to during the regular season in the playoffs. Colfax is the third and ranked number 1 in the state. Go Irish!

Week 10 Results

WWSOFFL:

Week 10: Somewhere, Pete Rozelle is smiling on the Walla Walla Sweeet Onion Fantasy Football League. Parity has arrived. Eight teams are at .500, two have winning records and two losing records. With three weeks left, the biggest lead is two games and the biggest deficit is two games, meaning anything can happen.

The Salmon, with M. Jones-Drew, did lose by exactly six points. But let’s wait a minute on the feeling sorry for Ben party. First, the Jets were letting MJD score. Second, and more relevant, he would have lost the tiebreaker if Jones-Drew did score. Third, the Salmon still lead the division. In the other Peter matchup, J. Addai’s 12 points were all the Maroons needed in a 19-12 win over the Onion Heads as they would have won the tiebreaker at 12. Speaking of tiebreakers, the Colassals did win one, 31-31 (29-26) over the Wheaties. It moved them into a tie with the Whales (who would have lost the tiebreaker to the Colassals, but ended up in a tie with the Wheaties had they been the division opponents this week) who lost to Charlie 56-31. Brady and LT led the way for Charlie with 13 points each. In the Julie, the Ducks tied Charlie for high points of the week with 56 (and they would have won the tiebreaker) as R. Moss’ 16 points led them over the Gatsbys 56-44. Finally, it was almost a tie as the Crushers eeked out a 21-20 win over the Muiracles.

Ben, we need your legal advice. The new wood bat, college summer league team in Walla Walla has take the name Sweet Onions. I am sure we have all sports rights to that name. I see big money, big money, here for all of us franchise owners. Please get on this.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 17 tds to 8 by the wrs.

Moves: The Thumbs took S. Hauscha for Mare. Charlie took Fargas for Green-Ellis. The Colassals took Hester, Coles, and Snelling for McGahee, Jones, and Nicks. The Maroons took Gage for Burton and Pettigrew for Patrick, then dropped Gage for M. Wallace (to strengthen the studio show on his team’s network).

The DeSales Irish won the mini-playoff, defeating Waitsburg which had already defeated Asotin. They kept it going on Saturday against White Swan with a 48-7 win. That is four wins in 15 days! Next up is LaSalle on Saturday at 1 in Yakima. LaSalle defeated the Irish in the first game of the season. The same was true last year and the Irish came back to beat the Lightning in the playoffs. Go Irish!

Week 9 results

Weeks 9: It was a rough week for the Peter Division with only one win. The Thumbs got 14 points from O. Mare to beat Charlie 42-17. The Link had a big week, goint 3-1. The Whales got over .500 as C. Johnson’s 14 points led them over the Onion Heads 44-40. The Wheat Eaters came from behind on Monday to beat the Crushers 34-23. The Colassals were led by 17 points from M. Turner in a 36-21 win over the Gatsbys. The Ducks got 12 apiece from J. Carney and H. Ward to defeat the Maroons 44-24. Finally, it was the Muiracles, complaining about injuries and a weak team, that had the highest score. With 15 from K. Warner and D. Williams, they won 58-37 over the Salmon. The Muiracles also took the two week money.

Big division games this week. With four games left, no team is out of it by any means.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 13 tds to 10 by the wrs.

Moves: The Thumbs took New Orleans for Denver. The Wheaties got J. Charles for the twitter kid, L. Johnson. The Ducks took L. Rankin for D. Ward. The Crushers added S. Breaston for B. Edwards. The Colassals took a Betts for Collie.

The DeSales Irish play tonight in a mini-playoff. The games are two 12 minute halves with a 12 minute halftime. The second game is 30 minutes after the first ends. Asotin faces Waitsburg at 5 (in Dayton). DeSales gets the winner. If it wins, it goes as the number 1 seed from the league and plays at home on Saturday at 1 against White Swan (and the loser of that game gets the second seed). If it loses, it plays the loser of game one. The winner of that game goes to Colfax at Saturday at 1. Go Irish!

Week 7 Results

WWSOFFL:

Weeks 7: In the Peter Division, the Onion Heads downed the Salmon 43-37 behind 14 points from N. Folk to pull into a tie for first place. Both teams Ds scored 9 points. C. Palmer’s 15 points led the Maroons past the undermanned Thumbs who left 4 bye week players on the roster, 25-16. The Whales rallied with a 16 points on Monday night (10 from Akers and 6 from the D) to overtake the Wheaties 34-33. In an equally close game, the Colassals got 13 points from Keading to edge Charlie 29-28. The Gatsbys went to a league-leading 6-1 with a 52-25 win over the Muiracles. P. Rivers led the Ducks with 10 points in a 35-27 victory over the defending champion Crushers.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 13 tds to 9 by the wrs.

We are just past the halfway point, and no team is more than one game away from a playoff spot as the sixth best record in the league is 3-4 (a record that half the league has right now). That means everyone is still in this. Only four teams have winning records, and none are in the Link. Of course, the Wheat Eaters have already predicted they will be in the playoffs. Any others so bold?

Moves: Maroons take K. Burton for P. Crayton; Gatsbys picked up Maroney for Chambers; Onion Heads continue their magic in picking Ds, taking NE for SF and took Wells for Hasselback; Charlie picked up Green-Ellis for Coffee; Salmon got S. Greene for Choice.

The DeSales Irish face Asotin on the road this Friday in a must-win game.

Week 6 Results

WWSOFFL:

Weeks 6: Some serious high scoring this week. The Ducks led the way, getting 20 points from R. Moss and posting a 70-26 win over the Thumbs. Seventy points is a rare number in our league, and only four away from the record. The Salmon, with 20 points from M. Jones-Drew, shellacked the previously undefeated Gatsbys 60-22. Getting 15 points from M. Schaub, the Onion Heads won 54-28 over the Wheat Eaters. Two teams put up 44 points. Charlie, with 21 points from T. Brady, easily got past the Maroons 44-5, and the Crushers were led by 12 points from V. Shiacoe in a 44-23 win over the Whales. Finally, D. Williams 15 points powered the Muiracles past the Colassals 33-28.

The Link Division is struggling right now as all four teams are 2-4. Something will give as the games this week are within the division. The Peter and Julie Divisions are mirror images with records from first to fourth or 5-1, 4-2, 3-3, and 2-4.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 13 tds to 10 by the wrs.

Time for some draft analysis. First round busts. S. Jackson (still not tds), B. Jacobs (1 td). Others who are underperforming are M. Forte, L. Tomlinson, and B. Westbrook. Highest pick dropped, not due to injury. C. Wells, 2ndround (24th pick). Besides Wells, highest pick riding the bench is TO, 4th round. Best middle round picks: R. Rice (5th), B. Marshall, A. Bradshaw, C. Benson (8th). Top late round selections, R. Mendenhall (10th) J. Maclin (13th). What do others think?

Moves: The Thumbs picked up O. Mare, M. Austin, and V. Davis for Carpenter, Wells, and Coles. The Onion Heads grabbed O. Daniels for McFadden. The Ducks added H. Miller for Boss. The Crushers went for an old reliable, M. Stover for Vinateri.

The DeSales Irish lost to Waitsburg-Prescott 35-28. It was a very exciting game and W-P just made more big plays. This week is a bye.

Week 5 results

WWSOFFL:

Weeks 5: The wedding was fabulous and we are happy to officially welcome James Ward to the Gatsby family. He will start in the locker room picking up towels etc and learn the organization from the bottom up.

Charlie Wins! With 12 points from C. Portis, Charlie gets in the win column with a 38-26 victory over the Whales. (In the game within the game, Steve Smith, Carolina-Whale, outscored Steve Smith, New York-Charlie, 2-0.) The Wheat Eaters got 15 from M. Ryan to led the way in a 41-24 win over the Colassals. The Onion Heads wrs led the way, with A. Johnson getting 14 points and L. Fitzgerald 12 in a 46-21 win over the Maroons. In the other Peter Division Matchup, the Thumbs came from behind on Monday night to defeat the Salmon 49-35. It was a balanced attack with 12 points from A. Peterson, R. Brown, and T.J. Housmanzadeh. In the Julie, the defending champs got 14 from A. Bradshaw in a 42-19 win over the Muiracles, while another Giant, L. Tynes, led the way for the Gatsbys, also with 14 points, in a 40-21 win over the Ducks.

The Onion Heads and Thumbs tied for the high point total, the first time that has ever happened. Using bonus points as the tiebreaker, the OH get the money.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 18 tds to 13 by the wrs.

Moves: The Wheat Eaters picked up L. Johnson for J. Morgan; Salmon went for Maclin for Mossaquoi; the Maroons grabbed N. Burleson for J. Gage; Charlie picked Knox back up for Hester and Crabtree for Henry; and the Thumbs picked up Carpenter for Rackers.

The DeSales Irish won 35-6 over Pomeroy. That sets up the big game with Waitsburg-Prescott this Friday in Waitsburg. Winner has the inside track to the playoffs..

Salmon
After a great start to the season, the Salmon face their toughest
challenge yet as the Saints have a bye (taking out three quality players
in Brees, Thomas and Colston). But adversity is an opportunity for
others to step up and deliver for the team. So, the Salmon will go into
the Week 5 match up against the tough former champ Thumbs with:

K. Orton
M. Jones-Drew
T. Choice
B. Berrian
M. Massaquoi
K. Winslow
S. Gostkowski
Dallas Defense (bye week pick up approved by the Commish)

Good luck to all...and may the Ducks beat UCLA. And for the record, I'm
pulling for Charlie to do some surfing on the Whales...not that I have
anything against the Whales, but Adam deserves better than 0-4.

Week 4 Results

October 7, 2009

WWSOFFL:

Weeks 4: Just back from SF and this is my first task! The scores, even the correct ones, have already been sent. The Peter Division won all four of its games this past week in an impressive showing.

Three teams are undefeated, the Salmon and Gatsbys, while Charlie is the only team still without a victory.

We are down to one first round picks that has still not scored a td. Name that player for more big prizes.

Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 13 tds. Wrs tds went from 6 to 10.

I am sure everyone knows that Jeff runs the top men’s tennis program in the region. His Onion Head assistant, Matt Salamon, won the Northwest ITA regional singles tournament this fall for the third time in a row. He goes to Mobile, AL Oct 14-17 to play against the other 7 DIII regional winners. His victory this fall qualifies him as an All-American in singles this year. Congratulations to the Onion Heads.

Moves: Trade: Maroons sent S. Holmes to the Colassals for L. McCoy and P. Crayton. The Maroons dropped T. Edwards to make room, and the Colassals picked up R. Williams to fill their empty spot.

Maroons picked up J. Harrison for J. Lewis; OH picked up SF D for Tennessee; Charlie picked up L. McLain for C. Henry, M. Crosby for J. Elam; R. Coffee for Royal and J. Knox for Bell; Thumbs picked up Denver D for Oakland; WE went for Prater to replace Kasay. There are other moves pending and I will have another update at some point today.

The DeSales Irish won big this past week, 57-6. They are at home this Friday at 7 against Pomeroy. Dad cannot be there to watch Kincaid as he has to be in Portland already for the wedding.

Week 3 Results

WWSOFFL:

Weeks 3: Scoring moderated this week with only 3 teams over 30 points. But those that scored, scored big. The Salmon led the way, scoring 56 points, led by M. Jones-Drew’s 21, and remaining undefeated in a 56-25 win over Charlie. The Colassals broke into the win column with a 47-24 victory over the Onion Heads. A. Rodgers led the way with 24. The Colassals also got the two week point money! The Gatsbys were the final team to score big as P. Manning’s 16 points led them to a 45-28 win over the defending champion Crushers. The Muiracles stayed undefeated with a 24-20 victory over the Ducks. The Maroons got their first win, 19-11 over the Wheaties, and the Whales grabbed the lead in the Link Division with a 25-4 victory over the Thumbs.

Three teams are undefeated, Salmon, Muiracles, and Gatsbys, while Charlie is the only team still without a victory.

We are down to four first round picks that have still not scored a td (although if the Crushers had reversed the order they announced their first two picks, it would be only three).

Low scoring starts with the rbs. Among the starters this weekend rbs scored only 11 tds (and only 3 for the other 10 teams if you eliminate the Salmon and Colassals). Wrs tds went from 15 to 6.

Moves: Thumbs, Heap for Frasano; Colassals McGahee for Moore and Garcon for Shiacoe; Ducks, Carney for Coffey and Sims-Walker for Hixson; Charlie, Celek for Keller; Salmon, T. Church for McLain. There is also a trade pending between the Colassals and the Maroons.

The DeSales Irish won big this past week, 35-14. THIS FRIDAY NIGHT, 7 P.M. AT HOME AGAINST DAYTON. IT IS PART OF SAUSAGE FEST. Please come out to Sausage Fest either Friday 5-midnight or Saturday noon-midnight. Kincaid is number 54 if you can make the game.

Week 2 Results

Weeks 2: A high scoring week with half the teams scoring 40 or more points. The Whales-Colassals contest rivaled Sunday’s night’s game for the back and forth leads. In the end, C. Johnson’s 24 points were too much for the Colassals as the Whales won 52-51. The difference was actually a safety by the Eagles D. In the other Link contest, it was the Wheat Eaters doubling up Charlie 32-16. The Julie and Peter Divisions split their games. The Muiracles beat the Maroons 39-17. M. Colston’s 12 points and D. Brees’s 11 led the Salmon over the Ducks 40-29. The Onion Heads also went over the 50 point mark, led by A. Johnson’s 15, in defeating the defending champs 51-37. Finally, in a game that was decided late Monday night, the Gatsbys held off the Thumbs 48-44.

Five first round picks have still not scored a td. Be the first to name them all and win valuable prizes. Best pick, so far (not counting kickers) after the first four rounds? R. Brown, first pick round 5 and K. Winslow, Round 8.

Among the starters this weekend: rbs scored 15 tds to 15 by the wrs. More td passes equals higher scoring. (last week it was 16-7) TEs? 6.

Moves: Colassals McCoy for Graham; Charlie C. Henry for A. Bryant;

Maroons T. Edwards for C. Pennington; Thumbs J. Shockey for Kaufman; and Gatsbys, M. Manningham for Maroney.

The DeSales Irish had another tough first half, getting behind 20-0 again before losing to Colfax 33-14. They travel to TOR this Friday to open up league play.

The Walla Walla Sausage Fest is October 2-3 at DeSales. There is a home game at 7 on Friday night, October 2.

Week 1 results

WWSOFFL:

Week 1: Julie Power (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap). Julie Power (repeat). The Julies swept the Links this weekend. The Peter had the three highest scoring teams. We saw a lot of emails about D. Brees (who had 21 points, not 20) but it was A. Peterson who led the scoring this week with 22 points to power the Thumbs over the Onion Heads 45-23. Still, the Salmon won the first week money with an impressive 52 points in beating the Maroons 52-44 in the rugged Peter Division. The Muiracles downed the Wheaties 28-16. T. Jones led both the Jets and the Ducks to victories this weekend as his 15 points gave the Ducks the edge over Charlie 35-31. Twelve points each from D. McNabb and F. Gore were enough for the defending champ Crushers to beat the Colassals 26-18. And in a major opening week upset, the Gatsbys did what they almost never do, defeat the Whales 40-30.

Half of the first round picks failed to reach the endzone this weekend.

Who knew that President Obama was learning how to elucidate current events from the Dark Wing Ducks?

Among the starters this weekend, rbs scored 16 tds to 7 by the wrs. TEs? 3.

Moves: The Salmon take L. Robinson for M. Crabtree. Colassals picked up J. Carlson for L. Moore. The Cadillac is back and in the Onion Heads fold for McCoy. F. Taylor also returns as a Muiracle for S. Morris.

The DeSales Irish bounced back from an opening week loss to shut out Mac-Hi 26-0. They travel to Colfax this Friday to play the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
