WWSOFFL:
Week 12: With one week left no team has clinched a division title, only one team, the Gatsbys, has clinched a playoff spot, and only one team, the Wheat Eaters, has been eliminated. Seven teams are at .500, only three teams have winning records, and only two teams are under .500. It has never been this undecided going into the last weekend of play. In the Peter Division, the Salmon hold a one game lead over the other three teams. The Colassals and Whales are tied in the Link, with Charlie a game back and still having a shot if both the teams ahead of them lose this week. In the Julie, the Gatsbys have a one game lead on the Ducks. If the Salmon and Gatsbys win, they clinch their divisions and first round byes. If the Salmon lose, they are almost certainly in a tie-breaker with the Maroons-Thumbs game along with the Onion Heads. If the Gatsbys lose and the Ducks win, then it is a tiebreaker for the division title. Whoever wins the Julie will get a first round bye. In the Link, if both the Colassals and Whales win, it is a tiebreaker. If only one wins, that team wins the division. If both lose, that makes it a three-way tie along with Charlie. I hope that is all clear. Once the division winners are sorted out, then will come the wildcards. First tiebreaker is, of course, total points.
How did we get to this point? The Salmon took the division lead after a big 37 point Monday night gave them a come-from-behind 45-40 win over the Colassals. The Whales pulled even with the Colassals as Fred/David Akers’ 13 points led them to a 55-23 win over the Maroons. The Gatsbys clinched a playoff spot as A. Gates scored 14 points to led them to a 42-27 win over the Wheaties. The Ducks stayed in the hunt for the division title with a 36-12 victory over the Onion Heads. The Thumbs got back to .500 with a 32-17 win over the Muiracles. Charles hung on to the hope of a tiebreaker with two LT tds leading the way to a 28-21 win over the defending champ Crushers.
Among the starters this weekend rbs scored 13 tds to 9 by the wrs.
Moves: The Colassals took J. Finley for Carlson and L. Johnson for Betts; the Gatsbys reacquired Buffalo for Detroit; Charlie went Rock for Fargas, Bell for Moats; the Onion Heads took Cundiff for O. Daniels.
The DeSales Irish lost to Colfax 19-0 in the state semifinal. It was a close battle the first half, the difference being a 53 yard run by Colfax for a 6-0 lead. But DeSales qb Pat Richard suffered a concussion right before the half and with a freshman qb the Irish offense could not sustain a drive in the second half. Still it was a great season. Number 54 is disappointed but proud of his team. Go Irish!
