Week 7

WWSOFFL:

Week 7: The Salmon took sole command of the Peter Division with a big 36-4 win over the Onion Heads. M. Crosby’s 17 points led the way. The Salmon, of course, had plenty of pink on from the Salon in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The Thumbs got a week best 23 points from A. Foster and 17 from D. Brees to post a big 49- 34 win over the Maroons. The Wheaties, yes, I have to do it, harpooned the Whales, giving them their first loss of the season as B. Rothlisberger’s 12 points led the way in a 35-17 win. The Colassals got back in the race, just one game behind the Wheat Eaters and Charlie as their bye week D, KC and the Sunshine Band, put up 18 points and calmed the seas in a 38-30 win over Charles. TD Jesus is the class of the Julie Division right now. A 48-24 doubling up of the Gatsbys gave them a two game lead and the two week money. The Crushers kept the Ducks winless with a 21-15 victory.

We have passed the halfway mark of the regular season. If the playoffs began today, it would be the Whales and Salmon with byes, TD Jesus as the Julie winner, and the Onion Heads, Wheat Eaters, and Charlie in the wildcard spots.

Moves: The Maroons won the race to D. Murray, dropping Gibson. Charlie picked up R. Brown for N. Washington and then dropped Mr. Brown for M. Morris. The Wheat Eaters are back in Plax, picking him up for Dwyer. The Onion Heads got C. Palmer for T. Jones. The Gatsbys picked up M. Napoli because he just has to be better than who they have right now.

WWSOFFL:

Week 6: A low scoring week in the WWSOFFL, except, of course, for the undefeated rulers of the sea, the Whales. Led by 20 points from A. Bradshaw, the large aquatic mammals backed up their boosting this week with a 51-24 win over the Crushers. Only two other teams managed more than 30 points, the Thumbs in a 34-16 victory over the still flightless Ducks and TD Jesus who won the sibling rivalry bowl with a 38-21 triumph over the Colassals. Charlie just got past the Maroons 25-22, the Salmon has the replay officials on their side to hold on to a 23-12 win over the Gatsbys, and the Onion Heads, led by 18 points from B. Cundiff, topped the Wheat Eaters in the WW agriculture bowl 29-23.

Apologies are called for to Felix Jones. He scored in the first week of the season. I want to thank Dave Glenn for pointing out this mistake. That means it was Chris Johnson who was the last person picked in rounds 1-3 to score.

The big game of the week is the co-leaders of the Peter Division facing off, the Salmon versus the Onion Heads. All games are intradivision, giving the Wheat Eaters a shot of slowing down the Whales migration to a division title. TD Jesus has a similar two game lead to the Whales in the Julie Division as they prepare for the Gatsbys. Will the move back to the Eastern Time Zone disrupt the season, much less the studies, of Hesburgh’s favorites?

Moves: The Colassals continue to seek a better defense strategy. Having moved from pirates to the pentagon, they have now gone for the caged tiger as they pick up Cincinnati for Washington. The Wheaties are rearming for battle, with J. Battle for McCluster and J. Dwyer for Burress. Charlie, seeking a lot of press if not points, takes T. Tebow for Kolb. The Onion Heads go for E. Graham for C. Williams. TD Jesus reacquired D. Carter for Cobb, and picked up L. Robinson for Keading. The Gatsbys have that Newport/Woodstock felling going as they return to the land with Akers over Folk music. The Maroons want gold not leather, so it is M. Nugent for J. Brown.

Week 5

Week 5: In the big upset of the week, the previously winless Maroons upended the high scoring Onion Heads 42-37 behind 10 points from M. Schaub. The Salmon moved into a tie with the Onion Heads in the Peter Division with a 50-30 triumph over the Thumbs as M. Crosby led the way with 14. In the powerful Link Division, the Whales remained undefeated and took a two game lead as S. Janikowski’s 16 points led
them to a 44-14 victory over Charlie. The Colassals made it two in a row with a 42-14 pasting of the Wheaties. TD Jesus took the lead in the Julie Division as AP’s 21 points led them to a 53-41 victory over the defending champion Crushers. The Gatsbys downed the winless Ducks 30-11.

Chris Johnson finally found the end zone, leaving F. Jones as the highest pick, third round, yet to score.

The Crushers won the two week money.

Moves: The Colassals have put their season on Cruz control and have dropped Tate. The Onion Heads won the race to Redman for P. Thomas. The Whales left the Big Easy D for the Dock of the Bay and will play with some flowers in their hair. That is SF for NO for those of you not in my 1960s seminar. The Ducks took Kuhns for Cribbs.

Week 4: The schedule maker is cruel. The teams that scored the third and fourth most points this week, the Gatsbys and the Maroons respectively, lost. Sir Charles, getting points from every position, including 11 each from Romo and J. Hanson, beat the Gatsbys 61-43. The Crushers, led by an unbelievable 28 points from A. Rodgers, beat the Maroons 49-42. It was sweeps week for the Link. In addition to Charlie’s big win, the Whales, led by M. Turner’s 13, stayed undefeated with a 34-31 win over the previously unbeaten Salmon; the Wheat Eaters got 12 from Dez Bryant and the Detroit D for a 41-30 victory against the Thumbs; and the Colassals broke into the win column with a 32-27 triumph over the Ducks. The Onion Heads kept pace with the Whales as the only other undefeated team as B. Cundiff’s 10 points led them to a 40-32 edge against TD Jesus. The Maroons and Ducks remain winless.

All games are intradivision this coming week, and bye weeks begin as well.

With A. Foster scoring, that leaves C. Johnson as the only first round pick not to score yet. F. Jones holds that distinction for a third rounder, and M. Williams, K. Moreno, P. Manning, and D. Williams continue to be shut out among the fourth round selections. At the other end of the draft, excluding kickers and Ds, the best picks in
Round 13 were G. Olsen and C. Newton. Round 11 yielded P. Burress. Round 10’s best picks were M. Bush and R. Meacham. O. Daniels in Round 9 tops that group.

Correction: The Salmon scored 40 (not 39) points last week.

Moves: Charlie picked up S. Ridley and N. Washington for Helu and D. Nelson. The Wheaties got a McCluster for Murray. TD Jesus went for B. Scott for D. Carter. The Colassals took M. Colston for M. Thomas and R. Torian for J. Cutler. . Gatsbys go back to Garcon for Britt.

Week 3: Break up the Whales. It is not that they are 3-0 after their 56-26 triumph over the Thumbs, led by J. (it is the kind of name that scores tds) Finley’s 18 points and 14 from T. Brady. It is the fact that the Whales are averaging over 50 points a game. In a league where topping 400 points for the season always puts you in the top group, the Whales are scoring at just over 52 points a game and on pace to score 676. The Wheat Eaters also hit the 50 point mark, led by 16 from D. McFadden and 12 from R. Mathews
in a 50-30 win over the Maroons. The Onion Heads were the only other team over 40 as the Patriots receiving corps (Welker 16 and Gronkowski 14) led them to a 48-28 win over the Colassals. The Salon styled their way to a 39-23 win, with 14 coming from C. Johnson, over Charlie Don’t Chirp.

In the results from the Julie Division matchups, it was TD Jesus coasting to a 32-13 win over the Ducks, and the Gatsbys downing the defending champion Crushers 34-31 behind E. Manning’s 13 points.

Still no touchdowns from C. Johnson and A. Foster, the only first round picks not to score yet. With M. Ingrham scoring, all of the second rounder selections have put up points. F. Jones still the only third rounder not to see the endzone, and M. Williams, K. Moreno, P. Manning, and D. Williams in the fourth round have failed to light up the board.

Four teams had over 100 points the last two weeks, but TD Jesus’s record breaking 76 led them to the high total of 108. It should also be noted that the Salmon and Wheaties are on a pace to score over 600 points, but they are averaging below 50 points a week. Still, with only three teams over 40 points this week, scores looked more like they usually do for a normal week in the bruising WWSOFFL.

Moves: Trade: Charlie sent M. Manningham to the Gatsbys for AJ Green. Charlie also picked up D. Nelson (of the sweet one hand shot) for L. Moore and R. Helu for Ford. The Gatsbys picked up S. Chandler for Pettigrew and T. Smith for P. Manning. The Colassals changed Defenses, going for the Pentagon over the Pirate Ship. The Wheat Eaters dropped Charles for D. Murray. The gals at the Salon picked up E.
Dickson and dumped B. Edwards.

Week 2: All the chatter came from Charlie and the Salmon, but it was TD Jesus putting up the record 76 points to defeat the Maroons who had a very respectable 40. M. Ryan, A. Peterson, J. Best, T. Gonzalez, and J. Kasay had 12, 14, 12, 12, and 13 respectively. Not that the Salmon and Charles did not score. F. Jackson’s 15 led the way for the Salmon in its 63-27 win over the Ducks. Charlie needed everyone one of those 55 points to get past the Wheaties 55-54 while the Whales won the other Link contest 49-32 over the Colassals behind Maclin’s 15 points. The Onion Heads R. Gronkowski led the way with 12 points in a close 31-29 win over the Crushers. The Thumbs cruised over the Gatsbys 44-29. That is a lot of points with 7 teams at 40 or more. The defenses are clearly still way behind the offenses in the NFL.

The top picks redeemed themselves as four of the top six scored. That leaves C.Johnson and A. Foster as the only first round picks not to score yet. M. Ingrham is the only second rounder not to put up points, F. Jones the only third rounder, and M.Williams, K. Moreno, P. Manning, and D. Williams in the fourth round.

Moves: TD Jesus resurrected J. Kasay for Gould; Maroons went for the Gibson guitar over the Colston; the OH grabbed T. Jones for Ringer; and the Colassals, bucking the political trends of the nation, went for Fitzpatrick over Collins.

Let me clarify my last message.  If you need a response from me about a change, you have to get it to me by Friday (a pickup of a new player, is someone available.)  You can submit your roster up to kickoff on Sunday as long as you do not need approval from the commissioner for a change.
