Week 1, 2011 season

Week 1: The Whales were down 35 points going into Monday night with Brady and Janikowski to play. After 17 points from Brady, and 22 from the kicker—including a ten point bonus for the 63 yard fg—it was Whales 53 Gatsbys 49. Ouch. The Whales also won the first week money. The Salmon came back on Monday night as well with a R. Bush td that put them over the Maroons 47-45. C. Johnson led the way with 12 points. The Onion Heads tied up the Thumbs 40-35. The Link took 3 of 4 from the Julies. In addition to the Whales victory it was the Wheaties 33 TD Jesus 16, and Charlie, behind 14 from R. Rice downing the Ducks 43-21. The defending champion Crushers upheld the lady’s honor with a 26-23 win over the Colassals.

The first six players chosen in the draft did not score. Every one of the next six players selected did (and the first two in the second round). Excluding bonus points, in the second round, only five players scored. If you take out the qbs and bonus points, and go with the first 24 position players, only 10 of them scored. In round three, it was five of the 12 who scored. Round four was the best with seven players scoring. Yet the fourth round has already lost two players, P. Manning and S. Jackson. Most impressive late pick is easy, C. Newton of the thirteenth round, but E. Doucet also from that round scored as well.

As usual, the first week had higher than normal scoring with half of the teams topping 40 points. Defenses will adjust and the average will fall back into the 30s.

Moves: Gatsbys took Folk for Hartley and J. Nelson for Garcon; Colassals grabbed Collins for Gibson; the Thumbs added D. Ward for Helu; TD Jesus went for Cobb and Gould for Berrian and D. Brown; and the Onion Heads moved Floyd and brought in C. Williams.
